Life cycle events are often celebrated in the context of Shabbat services. Families who choose to mark an event in this way — whether for a baby naming, b’nai mitzvah, auf ruf (blessing of a wedding couple before their wedding), or conversion — share their celebration with the community of Shabbat worshippers.
As a rule, life cycle events in the synagogue and the services of the rabbi are reserved for members of the community. Exceptions may be made based on the rabbi’s availability and discretion.
