Our statement regarding the recent incident at a synagogue in Taunton, MA
The community of Congregation Agudas Achim in Attleboro stands in solidarity with Congregation Agudath Achim against all forms of hate and intolerance. We are shocked, saddened, and angered at the vandalism of a sacred place where people gather in peace and prayer. While this vandalism appears to be the act of a single person, it nonetheless reminds us that even in a state as progressive as Massachusetts, there are undercurrents of hostility directed at people based on their religion, and their gender or sexual identity. We must work together to ensure that all people are free to live their lives as they wish without the fear of violence.
As a show of our support, Agudas Achim has cancelled its Shabbat services this week and will urge our congregants to attend services at Agudath Achim. The strength of our combined communities will demonstrate that we will not be intimidated by threats, but rather, we will disarm them with an abundance of faith, love, and fortitude.
