Hebrew School Aides
After graduating from Hebrew School many former students remain involved with the school as madrachim (aides), supporting and assisting Hebrew School teachers. Teens are involved in both the Lower and Upper Schools, and in some cases have gone on to lead their own classroom. This bridge from learner to teacher is another way the congregation strives to keep young adults engaged.
Teen Group
The teen group is open to post b’nai mitzvah members of the congregation. The group generally plans one monthly social trip and an overnight trip in the spring. Past events have included trips to a comedy show, the beach, bowling, the drive-in, Six Flags, New York City, and Washington DC. The goal is to provide a forum for teen members of the congregation to stay in touch. Because members of the congregation come from many different towns in southeastern Massachusetts, most students only see their Jewish friends during Hebrew School or planned social events. Once they graduate from Hebrew School, opportunities to get together dwindle significantly. While the group does engage in some service learning, its overall intent is social.
